In order to get cats into our clinics we have an army of volunteers who visit the colonies of animals throughout the Agios Nikolaos area on the look out for un-neutered animals and using special cages, trap them to bring them in for treatment.
We use special traps for this purpose and we are happy to train new people in their use. There are several areas locally, in particular around Kritsa, here we desperately need more help for this work.
The work involves trapping the animal, bringing it along to the clinic and then once it has recovered (usually the same day) collecting it and returning it to its territory. Then you will need to clean the trap and returned to us.
We also have a large group of volunteers who feed the street cats at various locations throughout the year. VOCAL obtains large sacks of dried cat food at a favourable price through buying in bulk, and volunteers collect these from us (without charge) and use them in their areas. They also put out water bowls and keep them topped up.
